Online conferences are here to stay: IVF-Worldwide Congresses lead the way

The past year has proven again that humans are nothing if not adaptable. This is what medical professionals have learned since COVID-19 became a household word.

A year ago, as the novel coronavirus’s devastating effects began to soar, the field of medicine proved that despite its  dependence on meeting face-to-face for knowledge-sharing events, the pandemic was not going to stand in their way and that virtual conferences could be a compelling substitute.

IVF-Worldwide was one of the first conferences to blaze the trail online. By the end of 2019, IVF-Worldwide, recognizing that many important ART conferences were in serious jeopardy, scheduled the First IVF-Worldwide Online Congress for April of 2020.

Global attendance beyond expectations
According to congress co-chairs Prof. Zeev Shoham from Israel and Prof. Milton Leong from Hong Kong, over 13,000 participants, from 150 countries registered for free for the congress. This attendance exceeded all expectations and turned this online gathering into the largest reproductive medicine congress ever.

A user-friendly virtual forum
The conference software, provided by CME Congresses, presented the venue in an inviting way, not just duplicating in-person settings, but also making the most of what online systems provide, such as the ability to jump between a session and the exhibition hall in no time and unlimited attendee space. All congress session recordings were uploaded to an open-access platform, amassing over 30,000 views.

Despite the greatest global health challenge in modern times, the online congress enabled the medical community to maintain excellence in reproductive medicine, progress in research, and continue scientific exchange and learning.
