Staying Afloat in Dire Straits
* Staying Afloat in Dire Straits: Despair and Hope, Ancient and Modern *

A Rabbis For Human Rights Seminar
With: Rabbis Laura Janner-Klausner, Amichai Lau-Lavie, Chaya Rowen-Baker, Shmuly Yanklowitz

Moderator: Rabbi Michael Marmur

This period in the Jewish calendar is known as ‘Between the Straits’, a period in which tragedies of the past are kept to mind. This year, the complex realities of the present make this sober season particularly resonant.

We have invited four of today’s most exciting and influential rabbis to reflect on how they navigate these straits at this time. What are the challenges to fundamental rights and core values with which they are grappling? How do the echoes of ancient Lamentations resonate in these days of pandemic? How do the personal and the political intersect at a time when we are all together in being all alone? Across denominations and time zones, four outstanding individuals will share their insights with each other and with all of us.

The Zoom dialogue will take place: July 23rd at 6 pm (IST)
