Athena Reaches Milestone of 24,000 Teachers

I am happy to share with you the various activities that took place during the outgoing year and our plans for the coming year. We thank you and all of our other partners and donors who have contributed to the success of Athena Fund's programs.

Towards the end of the year 2019, Athena Fund reached the milestone of over 24,000 school and kindergarten teachers who have received mobile computers of various types – laptops, iPads and tablets. In addition to the computer, other components of the digital toolbox provided by our various programs include: 120 hours of professional training, a printer, three-year warranty, three-year technical support, education credits, a classroom projector, wireless internet in the classroom, and a carrying case for the computing device. These teachers can be found across Israel in 2,114 schools and kindergartens in 163 local authorities. Over 500,000 students are benefitting from an increased level in their studies thanks to our programs.

Athena Fund programs include “Digital Toolbox for Every Teacher” (launched in 2007 as “Laptop Computer for Every Teacher”), “Digital Toolbox for Every Kindergarten Teacher” (launched in 2012), “Digital Toolbox for Every Science Teacher” (launched in 2014), “Digital Toolbox for Every Special Education Teacher” (launched in 2015), and “Digital Toolbox for Every English Teacher” (launched in 2018).

These programs have become success stories, and additional communities are awaiting donations to allow these programs to be implemented at their schools in order to empower their teachers.

In 2019, we distributed digital toolboxes to more than 2,800 school and kindergarten teachers throughout Israel, with a major focus on the distribution of iPads to special education teachers.

This past year Athena Fund launched a pilot to expand the program by awarding a Globisens Mobile Science Cart that includes 16 data loggers and 16 iPads. The mobile lab trolley will be used by science teachers to guide their students in conducting experiments. The portable lab trolley has already been awarded to Boys Town Jerusalem and the Beit Shemesh Educational Center.

Athena Fund’s programs are made possible by our strategic partners, including Bank Massad, the Professional Advancement Fund of the Teachers Union, the Israeli Ministry of Education, the Ted Arison Family Foundation, the Sylvan Adams Family Foundation, UIA Canada, participating local municipalities, and our other program donors.
