Dear Friends and Supporters,
1. My Shavuot thoughts for 5782 can be found as a guest column on the new blog of my friend Zak Witus. Zak is also serving as the Young Leadership and Education Coordinator for the New Israel Fund, although the blog is not affiliated with NIF. He suggested that I write a message for young solidarity activists, and I elected to recall the words of Al Vorspan and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, both of whom teach us about the sacred covenant between the generations on the road to Sinai.
2. We have been promising for a long time to enable our Canadian supporters to make donations that will be recognized as charitable contributions. You may have also noticed the updates over the past year or so that Torat Tzedek and my former organization, Rabbis For Human Rights, have been working more and more closely in partnership. Currently joint projects include enabling Palestinian farmers and shepherds to safely access their lands, and public housing for Israelis.
As you may also know, charitable contributions in Canada must be made to a specific project. Donations can now be made through Canadian Friends of Rabbis for Human Rights (CFRHR) and will be designated for the Economic Rights Walk In Client Service center serving Palestinian and Jewish Israelis alike from Hadera and Wadi Ara . CFRHR Canada is a Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) registered charity that has been issued a charitable registration number.
PLEASE INDICATE IN THE "SEND A MESSAGE BOX" THAT YOU WISH TO SUPPORT JOINT WORK BETWEEN RHR AND TORAT TZEDEK.
Your generation donation to CFRHR will enable Torat Tzedek and RHR to expand our joint work for our shared goals.
3. Please contact us if you are interested in helping organize either a Zoom fundraiser or an in person visit to your community. I can be reached at ravarik@gmail.com. This week our ongoing efforts enabled additional Palestinian villages to plow their lands. This coming week we will be bringing volunteers to Dir Jarir to repair fences destroyed by settlers. Every day, volunteers accompany Palestinian shepherds, and every day Ha’Ma’abarah’s Rights Center fight for Israelis seeking an affordable roof over their heads. We can only continue to do this with your help. May We All Merit To Accept And Understand Torah This Shavuot, Arik
