STATE OF THE OCCUPATION YEAR 57: A JOINT SITUATION REPORT

Dear friends,

For the second year in a row, twenty-one Israeli organizations have come together to produce a joint report on The State of the Occupation.”

This report surveys human rights developments in the occupied Palestinian territory over the past year, using the diverse tools and expertise of the various organizations.

Of course, the war in the Gaza Strip occupies a central place in the report, given both the grave suspicion of war crimes committed by Israeli authorities and Israel’s responsibility for the humanitarian disaster unfolding there. In addition, the report focuses on the annexation efforts in the West Bank and their implications for Palestinian human rights; the displacement of the Palestinian population in East Jerusalem; and the erosion of democratic space inside Israel.

The report opens with a forward from Ziv Stahl and Avi Dabush, two of our members who were themselves victims of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israeli communities on the Gaza border.
“We, who experienced the terror and the loss, are more convinced than ever of the necessity and the urgency of not giving in to despair.”

All 21 human rights organisations are committed to changing the grim reality detailed in this report. We call for an immediate ceasefire and release of all hostages. We are determined, as Ziv and Avi write:
“to do all that is in our power to fight for this place so that it will respect human rights and uphold international law.”

Thank you for working with us to advance this mission.

Sincerely,
The Platform
